Hope is the best part of our riches Wm Ellery Channing
It’s been a tough week, so this blog is for me as much as it is for you. The screen saver on my phone is a kaleidoscope. It is a good reminder that even broken things can be beautiful. I feel called to share hope with the world, but that calling did not come without pain. The loss of my husband, in his earthly form, taught me that not all of us live to age well. Or to age at all! Those of us who do, need to make the very best use of every single day we are given. That does not mean work more, it means live more. (More on that next week.) Memorials linger for the benefit of the living. I want my life to be a memorial to those who did not reach old age. I want to keep hope alive as long as I continue to breathe. I challenge you to live this week with hope.
I am learning not to watch or read anything that triggers negativity. No, I don’t have my head in the sand, but I don’t need to feed my negative mind. I want to continue to live my best life. In my Habits of Health book this week, I am learning to respond not react. It has led me to screen what I allow into my life. It has been just the week for it! My five-minute journal challenges me to state an affirmation every morning. Try it, you will like it!
My poor little inner artist didn’t get a date this week. That seems to be a hard thing for me to be faithful too. I hope you are taking your inner whatever on a date every week. Is it a date with one of your fur babies? Is it a date with your favorite author or poet? Is it a date with that car you’ve had in the garage waiting to be restored for years? Go sit in it. Savor it. Do one little thing to show it you haven’t forgotten it. I have a friend who is lovingly restoring a boat. It keeps him going. So what will I do for my artist this week? Maybe I’ll play with the watercolors some more. It also seems like a nice cool day to take her outside.
What I did get done this week was lots of little tasks around the house that needed my attention. That has led to many questions that I don’t particularly want answered, like: How does the corner with the coffee maker get so gross? It probably would help if I would remember to put the cup under the spout BEFORE I start it. Where do all these cardboard boxes come from and just how many “Oh this would be a good mailing box” do you really need? Do I really need W2 forms from 2007? You get the idea.
What did you learn this week? I found a lovely new word that is so much nicer than its B***S*** equivalent. It’s Bumfodder. After screaming the other word at a customer service rep on the phone this week, I was happy to find this much more civil term and I tried it out. It is almost impossible to scream!
That’s about all that’s going on in Helen’s World. Tell me about yours!
Until next time,
Hele
